How Mentorships Can Help Minority Students Navigate College

August 08, 20231 min read

College can be challenging for first-generation minority students. Having a trusted mentor provides critical guidance on everything from choosing majors to finding scholarships to networking for jobs...

Our nonprofit matches minority students with mentors in their fields to offer one-on-one support from freshman year through graduation. Meeting virtually or in-person, mentors advise on academics, internships, and campus life. The consistent insight aids planning and growth.

This personal connection creates a nurturing space to voice concerns and build confidence. Mentors help mentees work through obstacles and celebrate successes. Surveys show our program improves GPAs and four-year graduation rates.

Mentorships foster community and accountability. Students report the ongoing encouragement provided motivation and reduced isolation. Mentors gain renewed purpose from uplifting the next generation.
